Veep for President: Season 5 Preview

For those that don’t have access to HBO shows (let’s keep it legal), I can promise you one thing.

You’re missing the best show you’ve never seen.

While that other incredibly popular HBO show returns on April 24th, so does Veep, the tremendously funny show that sweeps up Emmys annually for going farther than any other political comedy has ever gone before. With the fifth comes new challenges for old faces. Julia Louis-Dreyfus fights to stay president against the ever-charming Tom James, played by House star Hugh Laurie, in addition to continuous obstacles, sometimes self-inflicted, creating workplace nightmares that resemble Parks and Recreation shenanigans on steroids.

What Veep can do on the small screen is nothing short of historic. With HBO sponsoring the project, the creative freedom is unparalleled. The language is raw, yet the camera work is refined beyond standard practice. Combining these two facets with a cast that makes a living and a killing off facial expressions and great use of the literal, the results are sensational. Every single line for every single character has been carefully crafted to fit the persona suited to deliver the next punch. A full frontal assault targeting anyone that stands in her way has quickly won Louis-Dreyfus the hearts of viewers and critics alike in what can only be described as a verbal massacre of her entire cast. Demoralizing every single cast member is her specialty, quickly capitalized on by Armando Iannucci and his scriptwriting team. There’s just one problem.

Iannucci isn’t coming back for this year’s Oval Office follies. Announcing that he was going to spend some time to focus on his family, David Mandel has been named the new showrunner. Mandel has experience with HBO productions, working as a writer and director for Curb Your Enthusiasm. So can we expect the same level of brilliance with a new head of the operation?

Time will tell, but while one major piece of the puzzle has been replaced, there are countless other members of the cast and crew ready to make this season’s election as off the walls as real life.

You can find all seasons of HBOs hit show Veep on the HBO GO and HBO NOW platforms.

  1. Nice post. I learn something more challenging on different sites regular.
It’ll constantly be stimulating to read content from other writers and
practice a little something from their store.
I’d prefer to use some with the content on my site whether you do’t mind.
Natually I’ll give you a link on your own internet site.
    Thanks for sharing.
